India register a thumping 76 run win over Ireland

Dublin, Ireland : 

India register a thumping 76 run victory over the lower ranked Ireland thanks to the two wrist spinners- Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal who claimed 7 wickets between them. It was India’s hundredth T20I game.

Earlier, Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant partnership of 160 gave India a huge score of 208/5 against in the first of a two match T20 series at Dublin today.

Rohit Sharma missed out a century scoring 97 of 61 balls which included 8 fours and 5 sixes. His opening partner Shikhar Dhawan made 74 of 45 balls including 5 fours and 5 sixes. Virat Kohli who needed 17 runs to complete his 2000 T20I runs didn’t come to bat at 3, instead came Suresh Raina. The left-hander scored 10. MS Dhoni came in next and made 11. 3 wickets fell in the last over of Peter Chase who took 4 wickets in the match.

Suresh Raina became the 3rd Indian to cross 1500 run mark in T20Is.

Ireland had a tough chase especially against top quality Indian bowling. The experienced Paul Stirling top edged one of Jasprit Bumrah only for Kuldeep Yadav to catch easily. It was only James Shannon who showed resistance against Indian bowling. He made 60 of 35 balls. Indian spin twins – Kuldeep Yadav (4-21)and Yuzvendra Chahal (3-38) picked up 7 wickets between them and showed the reason why they are picked ahead of R Ashwin and R Jadeja.

India lead the 2 match T20 series 1-0. The second match will be played on Friday, 29 June.
