Defending Champions and four time World Champions Germany have been knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2018 held in Russia. Germany became the third straight reigning champion to be knocked out in the group stage at the next World Cup – following Italy and Spain.
The Germans needed to beat South Korea by two clear goals in the final Group F match to advance to last 16. What unfolded was a shocker ! South Korea who had lost to Sweden and Mexico comprehensively defeated the defending champions 2-0. This is South Korea’s first World Cup win over the Germans in 3 attempts.
Both the goals came in the stoppage time with Kim Young- Gwon (90’+2′) and Son Heung- Min (90’+6′) scoring for South Korea. Earlier, Joachim Lowe’s men wasted a series of chances in this tense match. Korean goalkeeper Cho Hyun Woo showed solid defence and stopped all German shots that came his way.
