Rohit Sharma’s Ton Powers India To A T20 Series Win Against England

Bristol:

Rohit Sharma’s century off 56 balls supported by Virat Kohli (43 off 29) and a final flourish by Hardik Pandya (33 off 14 balls) have powered India to a T20 series win against England, 2-1.

Chasing a huge target of 199, India had a shaky start. India lost Shikhar Dhawan (5) early, KL Rahul, the centurion of the first match also didn’t contribute much. He made 19 off 10 balls. Virat Kohli then joined Rohit Sharma and made a partnership of 89 runs. After Kohli’s dismissal, Hardik Pandya came to the crease. He smashed 4 boundaries and 2 huge sixes and finished the game with 8 balls to spare. Rohit’s century was laced with 11 boundaries and 5 sixes. David Willey, Jake Ball and Chris Jordan picked a wicket each for England.

Indian bowlers were without the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav. Deepak Chahar made a debut for India. The English batsmen had a brilliant start. Jason Roy scored 67 off 31 balls with 7 towering sixes. Jos Buttler made 34 off 21 balls. Alex Hales made 30. At a point it seemed England would mount a total close to 225 but Indian bowlers pulled the plug at the end and restricted England for 198. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers claiming 4 scalps. Siddharth Kaul took 2 wickets. While Chahar and Yadav picked up a wicket each.

This is Rohit Sharma’s third T20I century. Colin Munro has also scored 3 centuries.

MS Dhoni made another record. He became the first player to take 5 catches in a T20I match.
