INDvsENG 1st Test Day 2 : Captain Kohli Stands Tall As Wickets Tumble On Other End

Edgbaston, Birmingham :

Indian Captain Virat Kohli has finally broken his England jinx and scored a century in the first innings of the first test at Edgbaston. As Indian wickets kept tumbling on the other end, Kohli stood tall and scored a masterful 149 as India posted 274 runs.

This is Virat’s 22nd Test Century, first in England and 15th as a captain. He has the most centuries as Indian Captain. Sunil Gavaskar ranks second with 11 centuries. Also, Virat has completed fastest 7000 runs as a captain in 124 innings. Brian Lara trails him with 164 innings. A difference of 40 innings.

FIRST SESSION : 

Shami took the remaining England wicket within 10 deliveries of day 2. Indian openers Murli Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan put on a stable start of 50 before Sam Curran caught Vijay in front of the stumps. Vijay scored 20.Immediately 2 balls later KL Rahul edged one off Curran to his stumps. The 20 year old Curran picked up Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket in his very next over. A set Dhawan danced down the pitch only to edge one to Dawid Malan. He made 26 and India went into lunch at 76-3.

SECOND SESSION : 

Ajinkya Rahane added 15 before he was caught by Jennings off Stokes. Balls later Stokes rattled Karthik for a naught and completed his 100 wickets. Hardik Pandya provided a resistance along with Captain Kohli in a small partnership of 48 before Pandya was wrapped by Curran in front. India went to tea at 160/6.

THIRD SESSION : 

As wickets kept tumbling on the other end, Kohli stood tall. He along with Shami, Ishant and Umesh added the much needed runs to come closer to England’s first innings total of 287. India finished on 274, trailing only by 13.

In the second innings, Ashwin knocked out Aliastar Cook in a similar fashion as he did in the first innings. At the end of day’s play England is 9/1, leading by 22 runs.
