India is the worst country to be a woman, shows survey

Now, India is the worst country to be a woman due to risk of sexual violence and being forced into slave labour, shows the Thomson Reuters Foundation survey.

The foundation released it’s results today of the survey conducted by 550 experts on women’s issues. The experts found India to be the most dangerous country for sexual violence against women as well as human trafficking for domestic work, forced labour, forced marriage and sexual slavery among others.

India is also the most dangerous country in the world for cultural traditions that impact women, said the survey, citing acid attacks, female feoticide, child marriage and physical abuse.

Government data shows that reported cases of crime against women rose by 83% between 2007 and 2016 and a shocking 4 cases of rape are reported every hour.

War torn Afganisthan ranks 2nd in the survey while Syria and The United States of America are ranked 3rd, followed by Somalia and Saudi Arabia.

In the last survey conducted in 2011, India was ranked fourth.
