Scheduled Castes in India and their problems
The term ‘scheduled caste’ was coined by the Simon Commission (1927). The expressions, ‘Depressed Class,’ ‘Exterior Caste’ and ‘Untouchables’ were commonly used for the scheduled castes during the colonial period. Gandhiji called them ‘Harijans’.
