Ambati Rayudu fails Yo-Yo test; Virat all set to lead India in Ireland

Middle Order batsmen Ambati Rayadu who was in blistering form this IPL, playing for Chennai Super Kings, has failed the Yo-Yo fitness test. He is set to be dropped from England tour after failing to attain required parameters in Bengaluru on Friday.

Indian captain Virat Kohli is all set to lead India in the two-match T20 Internationals in Ireland after comfortably clearing the fitness test.

“Almost all the players including skipper Virat Kohli have comfortably cleared the qualifying mark for the YoYo test. Ambati Rayudu is the only player in the UK-bound squad, who has failed to clear the fitness test. His score is well below the permissible 16.1 set for the India and India A team. Rayudu will be dropped from the squad,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Rayadu had last played an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2016. In his career of ups and downs, the right hander has played 32 ODIs. He has scored 1055 runs at an impressive average of 50.23 including 2 centuries.

Rayadu had an exceptional IPL this year. He scored a mammoth 602 runs in the 16 games. His contribution was immense in ‘Chennai Super Kings’ clinching the title.

Virat Kohli  had earlier pulled out the County Championship which he was to play for Surrey, due to a neck injury was seen comfortable while the beep test along with the likes of MS Dhoni, Bhuvaneshvar Kumar, Kedar Jadhav and Suresh Raina.

The Yo-Yo test is the basic fitness parameter set by the Indian team management before any tour. It was conducted at the National Cricket Academy ground, in the presence of Team India trainer Shankar Basu and the other support staff.

India will tour Ireland for T20 Internationals scheduled for June 27 and 29.

The tour of England, comprising three T20 Internationals, three ODIs and five Test matches, starts on July 3.
