Trump meets Kim: Peace or Distress ?

US president Donald Trump and the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un are planning to meet face to face during Tuesday’s historic summit in Singapore. The said meeting is supposed to be a bit secretive and only the translators will be accompanying the duo for at least a couple of hours. The other advisors and delegates will be joining them later in the meeting on Tuesday.

Why is it a historic summit ?

The duo are probably connecting to patch up the things until recently they were threatening to fire each other. The North Korean leader have always wanted a face to face meeting with the US president. But US and many other countries have long refused to engage with North Korea.
It is this year he is taken seriously when the the US president Trump has responded to Kim Jong Un by saying he’d love to chat. Therefore Trump’s meeting with Kim will be the first between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader over the years. Hence, the meeting is a historic event to be looked up at tomorrow.

What are the estimated outcomes of the meet ?

A senior research associate in California estimate a wide spectrum of potential outcomes from the summit. These range from a breakdown to some implausibly ambitious plan for North Korean disarmament and transformation of the Korean peninsula security situation.
The best outcome would be that Kim would agree to the dismantlement of North Korea’s nuclear program. But experts state impossibility to this happening so quick. It is also understood that Trump’s goal of total de-nuking North Korea is impossible.
On the other hand, the worst happening to be supposed that the two leaders would involve in exchange of personal insults. Last year, Trump called Kim, ‘little rocket man’ whereas Kim replied Trump to be mentally deranged.

Trump and Kim opine –

Trump at a press conference in Canada said, “I feel Kim wants to do something great for his people. I think the minimum would be a relationship. You would start at least a dialogue, because you know as a deal person, I’ve done very well with deals”. Further he said, “We are not going to go on in and sign something on June 12 and we never were”. On Monday morning he tweeted, “excitement in the air” after reaching Singapore.
Kim however said that, “We will establish a new relationship to meet the changing demands of the new era”

North Korean and US relationship over the years –

America is a wealthy capitalist democracy, and has always been on the paths of development. North Korea on the other side is a result of world war which divided the Korean peninsula into two, North and South respectively.
Both the countries, North Korea and America are politically opposite and have always seen each other as existential threats. They fought war in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea and America moved to support South Korea. The war till date has never ended, just put on hold.
