This Indian player returns to Test Cricket after 8 years

Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the one-off test match against Afganisthan to be played in Bengaluru on June 14. Dinesh Kartik will replace him. He had suffered an injury to his right thumb in the second qualifier while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the VIVO IPL 2018 against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 25.

Dinesh Kartik had last played a test match in 2010 against Bangladesh. He debuted in 2004 under Sourav Ganguly. He was one of the many wicketkeepers who made their debut around the same time. He was in an out of the team. He has played 23 test matches for India.

Dinesh Kartik led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the Qualifiers of the IPL 2018. He scored 498 runs at an average of 49.80.

This test match will be an historic test match for Afganisthan as it would be their debut in test cricket. Indian captain Virat Kohli has opted out of the test match to play for Surrey. Ajinkya Rahane is set to lead India.

The Medical staff of the BCCI and the management has decided to give Saha an adequate rest before the start of the England Test series. Saha’s recovery period is expected to be around five to six weeks.
