No Confidence Motion : Modi Govt Wins Trust Vote, Rahul Shines

The Narendra Modi led Bhartiya Janata Party have won the trust vote in the Lok Sabha in a 12 hour marathon debate on Friday. 126 members supported the motion while 325 MPs rejected it and the Modi Government won the trust vote by a margin of 199, which was expected but Rahul Gandhi’s unprecedented embrace to Prime Minister Narendra Modi hogged the entire limelight amidst all the drama that unfolded.

Rahul Gandhi finished his speech walked down straight to Narendra Modi and asked him to stand. A bewildered Modi didn’t know how to react, Rahul knelt down and hugged him. When Rahul was going back to his seat, Modi nudged him back and spoke some words into his ears. This moment stood out in the Lok Sabha.

In his speech Rahul Gandhi said that PM isn’t a chowkidar but a bhagidar . He added that PM uses hate, fear and anger to build his narrative while the Congress believes in love and compassion.

Narendra Modi’s one and half long speech was aimed at criticising the Congress. He said, “I appeal to the Congress to stop calling the Surgical Strikes as ‘Jumla Strikes.’ They can continue abusing me, my poverty, my background but please stop mocking the armed forces.” He added, “Congress leaders feel I can’t see them in the eye. They are correct. I am too small compared to them.”He also assured the people of Andhra Pradesh that the NDA Government will always work for their welfare and the state’s growth.

Jayadev Galla of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) kicked off the no-trust motion. RPI’s Ramdas Athavle, Mallikarjun Kharge, TMC’s Dinesh Trivedi,  Lok Janashakti Party’s Ramvilas Paswan and Rajnath Singh were some of the speakers in the debate.
