Mukurthi National Park, Ooty, Tamil Nadu

Mukurthi National Park has been established in the year of 2001. It is spread over 78 sq. km area in the district of Nilgiri District in Tamil Nadu.

Vegetation:  The vegetation of the park is tropical evergreen and moist deciduous. The grasslands of the park are covered with trees of rosewood, sandalwood, teak etc. These temperature, evergreen forests with grass lands are known as ‘shola’.

Fauna: The fauna found here are tiger, bear, Nilgiri tahr, leopard, dhole, sambar, chital. The silver grey common langur and Bonnet macaque. Nilgiri mongoose and Malabar civet are also found here. Amongst large species of birds found here are barbets, woodpeckers, minivets, hornbills, drongos, green pigeons, eagles, owls, shrikes, etc.

Best Season: The best months to visit the park is from February to May and from September to November.

Connectivity: The nearest town is Gudalur. Ooty is a beautiful tourist hill station and is very near from this park. The nearest airport is at Coimbatore.
