Medium Spicy’ shoot starts on a Sweet Note

As a new era of content ushers in with new avenues to storytelling, responsible filmmakers have also begun to give writers their due credit under the sun. As a fresh step in that direction, the makers of ‘Medium Spicy’ started their film shoot recently with the first clap of the film being given by none other than its writer – Irawati Karnik. Irawati has previously written various plays such as ‘Gasha’, ‘Tich Ti Diwali’, ‘Paisa Vasul’, ‘Balkadu’, ‘Mrugacha Paus’ and Marathi films like  ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’, ‘Pari Hoon Main’ in the past and was most recently credited for the dialogues of box-office success ‘Anandi Gopal’. She is also a recipient of the ‘Yuva Puraskar’ by Government of India’s Sangeet Natak Academy.

‘Medium Spicy’ also marks the Marathi directorial debut of noted theatre personality – Mohit Takalkar. Mohit and Irawati have collaborated and worked on this story for a long time, nurturing the germ of its idea to develop and blossom into a layered story of modern day relationships. The film holds a very special place in Irawati’s heart and hence the moment of giving the clap for the film was quite an emotional one for her.

“It was an honour for me to give the first clap. This is a very special film. To begin with, the story is rooted in Mohit’s personal experiences. I then came into the picture and wrote the screenplay and tried to maintain a sense of depth and vulnerability that I felt was intrinsic to the world of the film. So there is a lot of myself I have invested in the film as well and while it is exciting, it is also difficult for any writer to spend hard and long hours working on the script and then watch it get taken over by the director and producer, the actors and technicians and the whole team. Yes, it is wonderful to see it materialise but it’s also like one is parting with a dear friend. So giving the clap felt like the perfect ritual to hand the film over to its next stage”.
