INDvsENG 3rd Test Day 2 : Hardik Pandya Proves His Worth Puts India In A Winning Position

Trent Bridge, Nottingham :

Hardik Pandya have taken his first five wicket haul (5/28), the best figures for an Indian bowler at the ground as England plummeted to 161 in the 1st innings of the third test match. India are with a commanding lead of 292 as India made 124/2 at the end of day’s play.


India were 307/6 at the end of first day’s play. R Ashwin joined the 20 year old debutant Rishabh Pant but India couldn’t add much to their day 1 score as James Anderson and Stuart Broad wrapped up India’s tail in no time. India added only 22 runs to their overnight total. Anderson, Broad and Woakes finished with 3 wickets each.

England came in to bat with Alastair Cook looking to score a big one and Jennings looking good. England made 46 runs in only 9 overs before the teams went into lunch.


The tide turned in India’s favour in the second session. Ishant Sharma dismissed Alastair Cook (29), Jasprit Bumrah took Jennings (20) and then began England’s downfall. Ishant claimed another wicket of Ollie Pope (10). Hardik Pandya ripped the England batting line up taking a fifer (5/28) in only 6 overs. It all started with the controversial decision of Joe Root (16) for Pandya then in no time he claimed the wickets of Bairstow (15), Woakes (8), Rashid(5) and Broad (0).

Jos Buttler along with James Anderson added 33 runs for the last wicket. Jos Buttler hit his long shots also completing a 1000 test runs. Bumrah took his wicket. England were all out for 161. India were in a commanding lead of 168. Debutant Rishabh Pant also created a unique record becoming the first Asian wicketkeeper to take five catches on debut.


Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul came into bat with full of positive intent. Rahul batted with a strike rate in excess of 100 and gave India a brilliant start. The duo added 60 for the first wicket before Stokes bowled Rahul out. He made 33.

Like Rahul, Dhawan too wasn’t able to convert his start into a big one. He fell for Rashid’s flight as Bairstow stumped him. He made 45.

At the end of day’s play Cheteshwar Pujara (33) and Virat Kohli (8) are on the crease. India is 124/2 with a winning lead of 292.
