INDvsENG 1st Test Day 3 : India 84 Runs Away From Registering A Historic Victory, England Need 5 Wickets

Edgbaston, Birmingham :

Indian Captain Virat Kohli is again leading from the front with an extremely gritty 43* ably supported by Dinesh Karthik as India are in a pursuit of 192 runs after India rattled the English batsmen for 180. Ishant Sharma was the star performer as he picked up 5 wickets including important ones of Root, Bairstow, Stokes and Buttler.

India were once in a spot of bother as England bowlers saw the back of five Indian batsmen. India now require 84 runs to register a historic victory.

First Session : 

England came on to bat at the overnight score of 9/1 and leading by 22 runs. Within a few overs, Ashwin got rid of Keaton Jennings (8) and captain Root (14) courtesy a brilliant catch by KL Rahul at leg slip.

Dawid Malan (20) and Johnny Bairstow (28) tried a put up a partnership before Ishant Sharma applied the breaks. Within no time Sharma sent Ben Stokes (6)  back to the pavilion and England went to lunch for 86/6, with a lead of 99 runs.

Second Session : 

It took Ishant only two balls to show Jos Buttler (1) the door. The 20 year old Sam Curran who was impressive with the ball also showed his batting skills, as India struggled to wrap up the tail. He scored 63 off 65 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Umesh Yadav took two wickets of Adil Rashid (16) and Curran. Ishant completed his 8th five wicket haul by getting Stuart Broad (12). England scored 180 and India required 194 to win the match.

Third Session : 

Stuart Broad who went wicketless in the first innings got the Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan (13) and Murli Vijay (6) cheaply. KL Rahul (13) followed the suit as he got an unplayable delivery from Ben Stokes.

Ajinkya Rahane (2) played a false shot off Jimmy Anderson and R Ashwin (14) edged one off Sam Curran. Captain Kohli who scored a masterful century is unbeatable on 43 along with Dinesh Karthik (18).

India require 84 runs to go 1-0 up in the series and register a historic victory while England need 5 wickets.
