INDvENG : Indian Batsmen Crumble At Lords, Lose By 86 Runs

Lords :

Indian batting have seen a rare collapse today. Chasing a target to 323 set by England, India could only manage 236, losing the 2nd Royal London ODI by a huge margin of 86 runs.

Earlier to everyone’s surprise, England Captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat. England started off brilliantly. Jason Roy (40) and Johnny Bairstow (38) gave a decent start before Kuldeep Yadav worked his magic, dismissing both. Joe Root and Eoin Morgan (53) stitched a partnership of 103. Kuldeep Yadav trapped Morgan which led to a mini collapse for England. Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali – all fell in quick succession. It was Joe Root with his brilliant century along with a late flourish from David Willey (50 off 31 balls) that guided England to 322. Root made 113 with 8 boundaries and a six to bring up his 12th ODI century.

Kuldeep Yadav was expensive but took 3 crucial wickets. Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a wicket each.

India had a safe start before Mark Wood bowled Rohit Sharma (15) and within a span of 11 runs, India lost 3 wickets. Shikhar Dhawan (36) and KL Rahul (0) departed immediately. Captain Virat Kohli (45) and Suresh Raina (46) came together for a partnership of 80 before Moeen Ali trapped Kohli in front of the stumps. MS Dhoni (37) and Hardik Pandya (25) kept India’s hopes alive but couldn’t manage to chase the total as India were bowled out for 236.

MS Dhoni completed 10,000 runs in ODIs today. He became the 4th Indian after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, and 12th world-wide to do so.

The series is now levelled 1-1. The 3rd ODI on Tuesday at Headingley will decide the winner.
