Hima, Anas & Dutee win athletics silvers for India

Sunday was a productive day in athletics for India at Asian Games. 18 year old Hima Das won Silver medal in 400 meter race. Hima clocked 50.79 seconds to complete her race. Earlier, in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships held in Finland, Hima Das became the first ever Indian woman to clinch gold.

Muhammed Anas won Silver medal in Men’s 400m race. Anas clocked 45.69 seconds to complete his race.

Dutee Chand also bagged silver medal in women’s 100 meter race. Dutee clocked 11.32 seconds to complete her race. Dutee Chand was flying the Indian flag high after taking the second spot in the event. Dutee’s timing was 11.32 seconds, which was just 0.02 seconds behind Bahrain’s Edidiong who took the gold medal.

PM Modi congratulates Hima Das

Prime Minister Narendra Modi  congratulated athlete Hima Das on winning a silver medal in the women’s 400m race at the Asian Games.

Union sports minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore congratulated Hima Das for winning silver medal in 400 meter race at the Asian Games.

Union Sports minister also congratulated Muhammed Anas, who bagged silver medal in men’s 400 meter race. He wrote-

India’s Fouaad Mirza won individual silver medal in the equestrian event in Eventing. With this, he won India’s first individual medal in 36 years. Topping the dressage and cross-country qualifiers with a score of 22.40, he went into the jumping finals as a favourite. Living up to the billing, he scored 26.40 to seal the silver medal position in the three-day competition.

In team event, Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik, Jitender Singh and Fouaad Mirza claimed the silver.

India were assured of at least two more silver medals from the 18th Asian Games after its men and women progressed to the final of the compound archery team events in Jakarta on Sunday.

The Indian women’s team, comprising Surekha Jyothi Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Madhumita Kumar, witnessed a slow start in the final as they lost the first two sets before finding their mojo back to pocket the next two and seal the tie in their favour.

Men’s compound team also  booked their berth in the final. The trio of Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan were slow to get off the blocks before getting their act together to prevail in the four-set encounter.

Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu reached the semi-finals of the women’s singles badminton event and assured India of two medals. Saina defeated world number four Ratchanok Intanon in straight games  21-18, 21-16.

PV Sindhu also booked her berth in the semi finals of the badminton tournament at the Asian Games. Sindhu defeated World No. 11 Nitchaon Jindapol 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 in the quarter final.
