FIFA WC QF : Croatia Eliminates Hosts Russia, Will Face England In Semifinals
Croatia beat Russia 4-3 on penalties on Saturday to set up a World Cup semi-final against England after a dramatic match full of twists and turns. Both the teams finished 2-2 after full-time.
Cheryshev scored the first goal of the match for Russia at the 31st minute. 8 minutes later, Kramaric scored for Croatia as both the teams headed to halftime, 1-1.
The other two goals came in the extra-time. Domagoj Vida put Croatia in the lead in the 100th minute, off a clinical header which finished off in the near corner, initially made by corner kick delivered by Modric. Mario Fernandes headed in the 115th minute from a free-kick delivered with precision from Alan Dzagoev. Scores were levelled 2-2.
Brozovic, Luka Modric, Vida and Ivan Rakitic scored penalties for Croatia while Kuziaev, Ignashevich and Dzagoev scored for Russia.
