Caracas, Venezuela :
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro survived an alleged assassination attempt via drone on Saturday when a flying device carrying explosives detonated when he was addressing the crowd at a military parade celebrating the 81st anniversary of the National Guard on Saturday.
The video which was broadcast on live television shows the President along with his wife Cecilia Flores. Suddenly a bang is heard and footage of his speech shows the president suddenly looking upwards and dozens of soldiers running away. Two drones loaded with explosives went off near the president’s stand and seven soldiers were injured, the Venezuelan authorities said.
Maduro accused neighbouring Colombia and elements within the US of instigating “a right-wing plot” to kill him. While, the Colombian government has denied any involvement, saying there is “no basis” to Maduro’s allegations.
US National Security Adviser John Bolton denied any US involvement in the incident, adding that it could be “a pretext set up by the regime itself”.
6 people have already been arrested for their alleged involvement in the apparent assassination.

Venezuela who was once a thriving country because of the oil deposits as spiralled since global oil prices dropped in 2014. Majority of the country is living in poverty.

Maduro, took over as the President following the death of former President Hugo Chavez in 2013. He won reelection in May due to a largely rigged election. He banned two of the most popular opposition leaders, Leopoldo Lopez and Henrique Capriles, from running against him, and implied that any Venezuelans who didn’t vote for him could lose government food subsidies.
