Congress supports Sushma Swaraj after being trolled on Twitter

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj was brutally trolled and abused on Twitter over a controversy involving the issuance of passport to an interfaith couple in Lucknow. Congress emerged as an unlikely supporter to the minister.

The official twitter handle of Congress applauded Sushma Swaraj on her decision to call out the henious trolls of her own party who branded her as “Visa Mata” and “Passport Mata” and abused her over Muslim appeasement. Some even demanded that she should be removed from the Cabinet.

Earlier, Sushma Swaraj liked nearly as 70 tweets abusing her. She tweeted, “I was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018. I do not know what happened in my absence. However, I am honored with some tweets. I am sharing them with you. So I have liked them.” Swaraj was on a four-nation European nations visit at the time of the incident.

What was the incident ?

An interfaith couple in Lucknow – Tanvi Seth and Mohammed Anas Siddiqui were allegedly harassed by Passport Seva Kendra official Vikas Mishra.

Mishra had reportedly asked Siddiqui to take pheras and convert to Hinduism in order to get his passport. The couple wrote to Swaraj on Twitter alleging that they were humiliated while the passport application process.

On 24 June, Mishra was transferred to Gorakhpur and a furore broke out by a section on social media who felt Mishra was unfairly targetted at and they began posting tweets with #ISupportVikasMishra.

RPO Lucknow on 21 June tweeted that the passports had been delivered to the couple.
