‘BEAT THE PLASTIC’ pledge celebrities.

5 June is celebrated as the ‘World Environment day. This year the theme is ‘Beat the Plastic’ and India is hosting the event. Tons of non bio degradable waste is generated and the environment has to suffer due to it.

Celebrities around the world have pledged to stop using plastic and the Indian celebrities are not far behind.

Alia Bhatt tweeted a photo of switching over to metal bottle from plastic one.  She said,” Beat the plastic by switching to steel or glass bottles today! Plastic bottles take 450 years or more to decompose, harming us and our environment. I’m now one step closer towards purging plastic from my life. Hope you guys will make the switch too!”

Alia’s 2 States co-star, Arjun Kapoor also replaced plastic bottles with metal ones as its eco-friendly. He nominated Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh and Parineeti Chopra to take up the challenge and inspire others to choose a sustainable future.

India’s badminton sensation, Saina Nehwal also urged everyone to join in the movement to beat plastic.

Dia Mirza, the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador to India  tweeted, “I switched to biodegradable sanitary napkins when I realised they are made mostly of plastic!”

Aditi Rao Hydari praised Dia Mirza for taking up the initiative. She said,”Thank you for taking up this wonderful initiative and for making sure we stay responsible always!”

In a step to beat plastic pollution Indian Railways has started using fully biodegradable packages in 4 Shatabadi and 4 Rajadhani trains from Delhi, contributing towards a greener planet tweeted the Union Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal.
