How actor Kiran Gaikwad has become Marathi TV’s most popular face

UNTIL May 2017, Kiran Gaikwad was hardly known among cine goers or television viewers in Maharashtra. But post 2017 as Zee Marathi began to telecast “Lagira Zala Ji,” a Marathi television serial, Kiran’s fate has taken a new turn. He’s not only become the most popular actor among the masses, but he is being spoken highly as next big villian of the Marathi cinema.

During an interview, Kiran, better known as Bhaiyyasaheb Deshmukh by the character that he plays in the television serial, reveals what the role means  to him and how he is looking forward to making a great future in the television and the movie world.

Lagir Zala Ji – Zee Marathi Serial

Tall, handsome, sporting a pitch black beard and with powerful diction, Kiran who has vowed the masses with his dialogue delivery says he has put in lot of effort to get under the skin of the character. “The efforts are paying rich dividends… my character has become a household name in Maharashtra. And beyond Maharashtra too, it has held the viewers attention,” he says.

Barely 27, Kiran plays the role of a jilted lover but hogs the limelight more than the main character played by Ajinkya, who is depicted as the Army jawan. The serial is based on the life of a Army jawan and how his wife copes with the odds of life when he is on the battle front.

Off camera, Kiran shares a very good equation with the lead heroine of the serial, played by Shivani Baokar of Mumbai. Shivani plays the role of wife of Ajinkya and is fondly addressed as Sheetli by her family in the serial. Her powerful role rises to match the acting skills shown by Kiran.

The duel between Bhayyaisaheb and Sheetli is what is most watched part of the serial. Kiran speaks the Marathi-laced English which is often corrected by his close friend who is less than half his size, height-wise.

Though Kiran or Bhayyaisaheb plays the role of a villian, his bid to express his joy or his anger in broken or incorrect English is what has lapped up by the masses. “It seems like people wait for
my entry in the serial. I too have fallen in love with the character,” he says.

Kiran has played a few cameos in Marathi movie. “But I didn’t get noticed. It is this particular serial which has not only got my loads of eyeballs has elevated my status as an actor,” he says. But how did Kiran land this role ? “I and Shivani are good friends. It was Shivani who recommended my name. Initially, I did not fit the bill, but soon things changed for me,” he laughs in his typical style.
As for the offers for movies, Kiran says,”Though he has received offers, currently he is busy with Lagir Zala Ji which has given him new identity and immense popularity.”
