Which Is The Most Liveable And Least Liveable City In The World?

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research and analysis division of The Economist Group has conducted its annual survey of 140 of countries that indexes the countries on ‘liveability’. The survey rates cities worldwide based on 30 qualitative and quantitative criteria, which fall into five general categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Vienna (Austria) has topped the rankings this year beating Melbourne. Vienna scored a near perfect 100 in the overall rating whereas Melbourne (Australia) has ranked second with 98.4 points. Osaka (Japan) has won the bronze in the ‘Global Liveability Index’. 3 cities from Canada- Calgary (4th), Vancouver (6th) and Toronto (7th) feature in the top 10. Also, 3 cities from Australia find a place in top 10, Sydney (5th), Adelaide (10th) and Melbourne. Tokyo (Japan) is ranked equally with Toronto at number 7.

Damascus – the capital of war torn Syria is the worst in the ratings. Followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh), Lagos (Nigeria) and Karachi (Pakistan).

Indian cities Delhi and Mumbai are ranked quite low. Delhi ranks 112 and Mumbai ranks 117 out off 140 cities.
